2 annoying animals in NYC

Image
Hello, Dear Reader,   You definitely know that New York City is one of the most dense cities in the world, with more than 8 million population. Moreover, we are not alone in this crowded place! If you want to live in NYC, you have to find a way to live along with these annoying animals. Pigeons Indeed, pigeons are cute and seem no harm when you feed them in the park. After I came to New York, they became one of the nightmares in my daily life. Unlike the same species in other place, pigeons in NY are not afraid of people and sometimes flying toward you like they’re going to attack you. There were a couple of times when I almost got hit by a pigeon.   Also, sometimes you might find these lovely neighbors dropped a gift on your clothes. It’s so embarrassing to get bird poop on your clothes especially when you’re wearing a white shirt for an interview. That’s why some New Yorkers think of pigeons as “rats with wings.”   R...

Good Friend should not be your Roommate?

Image
Hello, Dear Reader, It’s too expensive to live alone in NYC! Therefore, most of NYC newbies need 1-2 roommate to separate high rent. However, the roommate could be annoying or frustrating if you are not getting along well with them.   I had already picked my roommate before I came here. We have been knowing each other for almost ten years: we studied in the same middle school, high school and college.   Accidently, both our graduate schools are in NYC, so we happily chose to live together. Everything started so well in the beginning.   We went shopping together every weekend and bought PS4 for our tiny place. We cooked together and talked about some funny things that happen in school.   Everything seems so great when your roommate is also your best friend. However , things start to change.   Because we study in different schools, our schedule is different.   He always stays...

Looking For a Boyfriend

Image
Hello, Dear Reader, I feel so lonely these days and the reason is "Unhappy" Valentine’s Day.  All couples celebrate it, buy something special for beloved ones, go to the restaurants enjoying the romantic atmosphere. I can see hearts, teddies, and “love” everywhere…  But nothing deals with me…  From despair, I started to use a dating application called Hinge. My cousin told me there are a lot of handsome Asian guys on this APP. Tony, my classmate, said that girls have more advantages of using these APPs. We click “NO” until we find someone REALLY attractive, meanwhile, guys constantly press “YES/MATCH” to catch more girls. I am very picky. And of course, I look at the photo first.  If I don’t like the picture I press “NO” immediately. Two things I hated the most: Sometimes guys post photos with other girls, and I wonder if they are their sisters or girlfriends.  Why guys do that??? Sometimes they post photos with friends. It is o...

Slept in the Subway Station

Image
Hello, Dear Reader, Can you imagine one day you are sleeping in the public subway station at midnight as a "HOMELESS" ?  Moreover, In the MOST "dangerous" city, New York. If ONLY I KNEW this gonna happened, I would take a taxi to go home. It was Ultimate Frisbee night I went to the Bronx for a Frisbee game from 8:30 pm and 10:30 pm.   Usually, I would go back home (Queens) directly at 12 AM.  But that day was special: The last game for the fall league before winter break. So my teammates and I went to the bar near the filed to celebrate this successful league which is a traditional event basically . We had a great time there and left the bar around 12:30 am. Bronx is the riskiest area of New York where robbery, shooting and gang conflicts taking place every day. But the next thing happened is the one I will never forget.   As an adult, I didn't even care the time at the first place and sauntered in the street.  Then sudd...

Challenges for a Cozy Apartment

Image
Hello, Dear Reader, Have you ever dreaming of living in a cool and cozy apartment in New York City? I do.  But the reality is... Challenge 1: Get a HUGE apartment with a reasonable price on my own Before I came here, I’ve heard a lot of complaints about how hard it is to find a cheap apartment in New York and my friend told me it would be more difficult for a foreigner like you to get one and better ask a broker to help you. “Come on. I am a courageous young man step out of his comfort zone. There’s nothing that can scare me. I can do it on my own” I told myself. To prove they’re wrong, I searched online through the rental website, such as Rental.com, Aparment.com, Streeteasy.com , etc. There’re so many nice rental units but the problem I have is No Social Security Number. No credit records. No guarantor. After two months of research, I got nothing. Totally nothing. At last, I compromised on it and went to the broker...
